English as in written in english, not as in from england.

Since there's loads more books published in english then there ever was in french, i imagine i'm not the only one here who started collecting the stuff that DIDN'T get translated into french. It is of course sort of a daunting task to try and find out about all the series and figuring out which ones are worth the money (made a lot easier by the excellent Demian's gamebooks site however) . I went for the series whose authors i'm familiar with so for now i'm only collecting:

Freeway Warrior by Joe Dever (four volumes)
Car wars, edited by Steve Jackson (US), though he onyl wrote one (6 volumes)
Falcon by Dave Smith and Jamie Thomson (6 volumes)

I'm only missing the last volume of the last two series. I haven't read any of these yet but i've leafed through them enough that i believe i can safely say that Falcon and Freeway Warior seem to be worth it, but i'm not so keen on Car Wars, at a glance anyway. Seems to be more about combat and rules than text. They ARE adapted from scenarios of the RPG game of the same name so I guess that would figure.

I also collect the FF and Lone Wolf books WHEN i see them. I mean I don't really actively collect them, but if i come across any in shops and such, i'll buy it. So far i have the first 7 lone wolf and about the same number of early FF (by early i mean #30 and under). I also have recently acquired the first Sorcery with the famed Spellbook. And i found once in a shop a book from a more or less obscure series titled Sniper, the premise of which puts you in the role of a covert CIA agent doing the kind of exciting things such agents can usually be found doing, whatever that may be.... to be honest it doesn't seem very good (despite an "original" idea, for gamebooks anyway) so i doubt i'll be buying any more of that one.

I will probably, in time (assuming i have enough of it left in my life, ah the arrogance of the living with all their plans-making...), collect the Marvel Superheroes gamebooks (8 published only 3 in french). It doesn't seem that hard to get ahold of them and i'm a comic book fan so there is a justifiable amount of interest (although i'm not altogether too deluded as to their overall quality..that being said i've always enjoyed the Wolverine book which i've had in french since i was a kid)

I have considered getting the MANY AD&D gamebooks published in english that weren't in french (I believe there's something like 16 of them, only four made it into french) but i have found that aside from the first few of them, all the later ones fetch a, well, not TRULY unreasonable price but let's say, more than i'm willing to invest on yet ANOTHER gamebook series right now (Besides i have to make my girlfriend think i've really stopped collecting anything new....for a while anyway Razz )

My general rule of thumb, as with the french ones, is to collect the ones that have a decent rules system. Not that this necessarily implies quality but it usually helps sort out the grown-up stuff from the rest of the kiddie crap.

Citation :

Same thing here.

I only have a 1 Lone Wolf but a good chunk of Fighting Fantasy(about 15 to 20) that I mainly grabbed around one big E-bay sale from Scotland.

Beside a have a whole set of Sorcery!, including the first one in the box set alongside the Sorcery Spell book.

The complete my FF universe I went for the Fighting Fantasy rpg book that are afortable: Fighting Fantasy: The Introductory Role-Playing Game, Out of the Pit, The Riddling Reaver, Titan: The Fighting Fantasy World

As a game fan I got the 3 Heroquest book.

I have a bunch of D&D endless Quest book (mainly the 3 Conan), the first 4 Heartquest (the Harlequin style romance novel in the D&D setting) and the 4 Sagar The Barbarian book in UK edition, which are from Gary Gygax and set in the Greyhawk AD&D world (without license).

The other series I grab are chance finds, like some Gives yourself Goosebumps, Choose your own adventure and Time Machine.

The series that I don't have but I look forward too are Transformers, G.I. Joe and other licensed book from childhood favorites. I just noticed they're two Star Trek gamebook in the Which Way Books serie...

The biggest thing that surprised me when I found back the original FF were the different, and often quite startling, fonts used for the covers. Gallimard really took a sober, classy look in unifying the title design.
